Brief Introduction to Power BI

 INTRODUCTION TO POWER BI

Power BI is a Data Visualization and Business Intelligence tool that converts data from different data sources to interactive dashboards and BI reports. Power BI suite provides multiple software, connector, and services - Power BI desktop, Power BI service based on SaaS, and mobile Power BI apps available for different platforms. These set of services are used by business users to consume data and build BI reports.

Power BI desktop app is used to create reports, while Power BI Services (Software as a Service - SaaS) is used to publish the reports, and Power BI mobile app is used to view the reports and dashboards.

Power BI Desktop is available in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. To download the latest version, you can Click here

    Components of Power BI

Power BI Desktop − This is used to create reports and data visualizations on the dataset.

Power BI Gateway − We can use Power BI on-premises gateway to keep our data fresh by connecting to our on-premises data sources without the need to move the data. It allows us to query large datasets and benefit from the existing investments.

Power BI Mobile Apps − Using Power BI mobile apps, we can stay connected to their data from anywhere. Power BI apps are available for Windows, iOS, and Android platform.

Power BI Service − This is a cloud service and is used to publish Power BI reports and data visualizations.

Tools of Power BI

Power Query : It is ETL tool which extract transform and load the data. It also used for data cleaning purpose.
Power pivot : It used for data modeling purpose. When we have multiple data sources if we want to connect them create relationship between them we can use power pivot.
Power view : It helps us to create 250+ charts. These chart helpful for presentation of reports and dashboards.

How Power BI works?

Powerbi pulls the data from different sources such as excel, pdf, csv, text, web and many other data sources, all together or one by one. After that we can clean data with the help of powerbi query editor and perform data modeling. We can create charts, maps, after creating report if we want to publish the report with other people it is possible by powerbi services with the help of powerbi service we can create dashboards as well as we can share the reports and dashboards with different people across world.

Building blocks of Power BI

·         Visualizations

·         Datasets

·         Reports

·         Dashboards

·         Tiles

a. Visualization

A graphical representation of data is nothing but visualization. For example, a diagram, chart, shading coded outline, other intriguing things we can make to speak to our information outwardly. Power BI has a wide range of various perception writes, and additionally coming constantly. The accompanying picture demonstrates  various visualization that provided by Power BI .

b. Datasets

A dataset is an accumulation of information that Power BI uses to make its representations. We can have a basic dataset in light of a solitary table from Excel exercise manual, like what’s appeared in the accompanying picture.

c. Reports

In Power BI, a report is a gathering of perceptions that seem together on at least one pages. Much the same as some other report you may make for a business introduction, or a report you would compose for a school task, in Power BI a report is an accumulation of things that identify with each other. The accompanying picture demonstrates a report in Power BI Desktop – for this situation, it’s the fifth page in a six-page report. You can likewise make reports in the Power BI benefit.
Reports let you make numerous perceptions, on various diverse pages if fundamental and gives you a chance to organize them in the way best recount your story.

d. Dashboards

When we prepare to share a solitary page from a report or offer an accumulation of perceptions, we make a dashboard. Much like the dashboard in an auto. A Power BI Dashboard is a gathering of visuals from a solitary page that we can impart to others. Frequently, it’s a chosen gathering of visuals that give snappy understanding into the information or story we are attempting to exhibit.
A dashboard needs to fit on a solitary page, frequently called a canvas. Consider it like the canvas that a craftsman or painter utilizes. A workspace where we make, consolidate, and adjust fascinating and convincing visuals. We can impart dashboards to different clients or gatherings, who would then able to communicate with our dashboard when they are in Power BI benefit, or on their cell phone.

e. Tiles

In Power BI, a tile is a solitary representation found in a report or on a dashboard. It’s the rectangular box that contains every individual visual. In the below picture, you see one tile (featured by a splendid box) which additionally encompass by different tile
